So I began my battle with cancer. Mine was not so long as most, it seems. I was diagnosed within 4 months, and began treatment just weeks later. I headed to surgery to have my thyroid and tumor removed. Before going under, the surgeon was unsure if I would lose the whole thyroid, or maybe just half. So under I went, and again, God was soo in control and blessing me!! Turns out the surgeon I had was the #2 guy in the country, and worked with the #1 guy!! AND I found out that this surgeon had studied under a dear friend of mine at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. This professor had been the top ENT in the NATION for the past number of years!!! Okay, so does God set us up for success - or what????? After the surgery, I could see a bit of nerves settle in on his face as, after I was awake again, asked me to speak. "why?" I asked. "Because the thyroid sits on the vocal nerves, and you have the smallest vocal nerves I've ever seen!" Whew!!! I am sure I will share later my love affair with singing and music, but suffice it to say, I had a bit of a rough upbringing, and God used music to literally save my life! So vocal nerves were in tact!! whoohoo!!! and, by the way, the surgeon said the other half of my thyroid had been dead for years. I had been sustained on just the half, and wowsers! I felt sooo blessed!
Next I was given a radiation ablation; that is an iodine uptake, and an enormous dose of radiation. It was in a hospital setting, and the room was like the "Twilight Zone" or something!! Everything wrapped in plastic wrap, brown paper on the floor where I was supposed to walk..... willd!
Unfortunately, this was not a cancer specialty hospital, so I had to prod, plead, and study to find out what this could do to my children if they should come in contact with me. Turns out, if I had "exchanged bodily fluids" that is, kiss, hug, sweat, on them, the radiation from my body would have transferred and entered theirs, killing their thyroid!! Research, ask questions, never settle for the first answer, research again until you find all the answers possible!!!! is what I took away from that experience! So two weeks away from my 2 year old twins... that was really the hard part!
Next was recovery, testing, body scans, the works. Sailed through those! The scariest part was the recovery. After a few weeks, when I was home alone with the kids, I realized I was unable to stand or walk, I could only crawl. I could not make a grip to pick up a crayon to color with them, and I felt a droop in my face, and my speech became slurred. I felt the Holy Spirit wash over me in warning....."you are not safe, you must call for help" So I called. My mother and mother -in-law came, and I was rushed into the endocrinologist. He just smiled and patted my head.... so off to my internist. Turns out, I had not been given any thyroid supplement for 6 weeks after surgery. Do you know how dangerous that is? Pretty darn! One percent of calcium goes to muscle contraction.... without thyroid, you cannot keep calcium in your body, and lifting weights may not be so scary, but then my Mom says " your heart is a muscle..... it;s about to stop"!
Yeah, that made me quiet for a little while..... So, again, there was God, saving my life - once again!!! He MUST have a reason!!!

and then...
Whammo!!! My new, strong, beautiful body began to have pain, and grow in places that were NOT my "tough spot". So off to the doc I went again! Now I had been working full time, training early morning, reading the Word, praying, even leading some Bible Studies! I remember going on evening to pray with the elders of our church - we called them the 3 "J'''s, and they had been praying together I think 25 years when i met them. I actually asked them to pray for complete healing, but only if I had learned at this juncture what God had for me. It seemed the more I learned of God, the healthier I became!!
So, I digress. Now I had a tumor growing in my stomach (uterus, to be exact) not deadly or even really harmful, except for the fact that it sat on my sciatic nerve, and when I moved a certain way, it felt like something was ripping from my body that should NOT be! So my training ground to a halt until I was able to find a doc to remove it safely.
Again, God provided. I had a dear friend who had gone before me - with a dinner plate sized tumor of the same kind. At that time, there was a doctor in Philadelphia had developed a technique to remove these without the woman bleeding out. (Did I mention, mine was the size of a 4 month old baby?) I refused the total hysterectomy offered by 100% of the docs I could get in to see. I told them I was going to have children, and no tumor was going to stop that!
Off to Philly we flew, and out that tumor came! 8 weeks later - my return to the gym! Whoohoo!! But now, my rockin' trainer had moved to Georgia!! We still kept in touch, and she was always wonderfully encouraging - she taught me what I needed to know and told me I could do it - I just had to think it through! And she was right! After a number of baubles, I started back on a rock solid routine. So grateful to have her voice, instruction, encouragement in my head to keep me going. In fact, I even began training a few friends and family to boot!
But my body would not respond, I was in a lot of pain, and I was exhausted.... off to the biochemist. Apparently, enough had to be taken out inthe surgery, that my hormones were flipping into menopause! So onto progesterone, and more to try to stave this (attack?) off!
Would you believe months later, after almost 10 yrs of marriage, and all docs saying it would most likely not happen, my hubby and I were blessed with twins!!!
Strong, healthy pregnancy.... tough, icky first months - all normal!
and strong, BEAUTIFUL, healthy boy and girl twins!!!! Our God is amazing, isn't He???? There was a number of issues woven in there - but wow, this is a long entry!!
our new family moved to Houston, TX, (where my hubby and I were raised) to be near grandparents. Again, I was offered a membership to a gym my sister in law trained in as a trainer, and voila! Back on track again... lifting weights and grinning ear to ear! Childcare for 2 hours a day = it was Heaven!!!
Apparently, my body again was really upset. As my twins turned 2, my body told me it had been a real struggle, and went into Thyroid cancer. Again God was there - providing strength, courage, and real, deep, joy...

Should we back up?
So, I was thinking, do I need to back up and explain a few things?
I have my reasons for tackling this project at one of the busiest times in my life. How about you? Are you out there?
Let me give you some background.... maybe our reasons are closer together than you think! At the ripe old age of 26 (JUST TURNED) I was diagnosed with CFIDS. (Chronic Fatigue Immune Disfunction Syndrome) still not sure if that was the whole picture, but its the best they could come up with at the time.
Basically, my immune system was gone - abased, non exisent. My pituitary gland had shut down, and there was no nutrient in my body. So basically I was bedridden - for almost 4 years. Not the way yomu want to start a brand new marriage!!
However, after that time - I came out a Powerlifter! How? Well, the docs sent me home saying "you seem nice, hope you don't die - but we can't help you" "oh, and you will wish you were dead"
All I needed. I began studying nutrition, and with the help of a health coach, added the food supplements that would keep me alive for the next 4 years. so I came out of this thru organic raw veggies and protein supplement. (that is what gave me any energy)
in the midst of this, I moved to Nashville, TN - awesome place!!!! And I began attending Bible Studies.... and voila! More and more energy. The more of God's Word I learned, the stronger I became!!
One day this incredible woman came to me and said "I feel that God wants me to train you". I thought aobut it for about 3 seconds, and said - "let's go"!! Little did I know that this girl had been a bodybuilder and Army captain for a number of years already!! She is now, still, years later, a true sister and friend!
3 months with this woman's training, and off to my first competition. GREAT experience!!!! I highly recommend it!!!
So I learned more and more about this miraculous human body. Well, I was hooked. By then I was working parttime in Women's Ministry, and kept up my training, feeling like a million bucks!! I was off to the races, maintaining this until.....

Day 1
So how did you do this morning? Are you ready? Have you written your goals? Contemplated them? go ahead - write them down now. Statistics say that 90% of the people who write them, acheive them!
So, having done that - how did your morning help you reach your goals today? AFternoon? Evening? Do you realize that every moment of every day can be turned into a goal reaching event? Each step, each thought, each mouthful can take you toward or away from your goals!!
Me? I had a protein shake and blueberries this morning, after my 3 mile run.... which I completed in (my) record time! Notice I said MY time - not yours, or Lance Armstrongs.... but MY best!! that really set me up for success today.
so I had my snack at the 3 hour mark..... almonds, cranberries and whey protein.... and I am on my way.. join me!!!

New Day, New Direction!
We never know when our eyes open in the morning, what the new day will bring. Some days feel harder than others, but all days come with intrinsic value!
No matter if this is the day where seemingly EVERYTHING went wrong, it is still a day which we will be able to gleen value and wisdom in some form. That wisdom can always be used for good, and for taking us a step closer to our goals and where we want our lives to go. (now some days we will have to look harder than others - but all that entails is stretching our "positive outlook" muscles to find the silver lining in each experience.) Any such exercise will always be used for our benefit. The more we stretch those muscles, the easier it becomes to use them.... in fact it's a beautiful thing when we catch ourselves always seeing the good, and having to search for the bad.
So today, I wonder if you would join me on a new journey. A journey of discovery. I want to discover just how amazing the human body is. How the body and mind can work together to build strength during the most anxious of days and situations. In fact, we will see how increasing our health will make all of life easier.
We all have issues to deal with. Sometimes our circumstances seem overwhelming, and for women sometimes we take on things that we have no business mentally, emotionally, or physically tackling, yet we do it over and over again. Is this unintelligence? Did we not learn the first 3 times? NO! this is how we are created. The ultimate multitaskers, wanting to be SuperWomen of all proportions. We think we can do it all....and I believe that is not far from the truth. It's just in how we go about it that may determine our acheivement. There is no failure - only learning. I think that's a real truth. Thomas Edison stated "I did not fail with the lightbulb, I found 754 ways not to make one". And there you have it!
So I am beginning a new journey. A journey of physical fitness and overall extreme health in the midst of family issues.
I have become somewhat of a caretaker for my Mother, along with 2 children, a very wonderful hubby, and a fulltime job. Sound familiar? We're all there, aren't we?? So, can we add super healthy Wonder Woman to the list?? I believe we can!! it is totally acheivable!!!! I absolutely believe that focusing in on our fitness and nutrition will actually make the rest of our lives fall into place, and run like a well oiled machine!
So, are you in???
1st step: Choose your goals: Want to lose weight? Run a 5 K? a 10K? triathlon? or just walk to the mailbox after eating a wonderfully healthy dinner?
Let's go!! Let me know if you are in with me! I'm going for it - I hope you will too!

Nutrition and Fitness
So when I started this blog it was going to be helpful, real life tips to help you be at your optimum health! Because my computer "savvy" is from 1999, I have failed in my attemps to link this blog to another which addresses those helpful tips! So, today they will begin right here!!
So, you have made a decision to get healthy and fit - forever!!
What' sthe first step??
1. Goals - you must define them, write them down and make it plain. Get Specific! Is it lose weight? Drop pant sizes? then how much, and how fast? Get healthier? Then state exactly what that means. Stronger? what do you want to acheive?
2. Determine the process; How are you going to make this happen?
What is your current schedule? What time do you have available now? What can you switch around?
Making fitness your #1 priority to get your habits established will be your goal for the next few weeks. A few weeks of forcing the issue will pay big dividends later! Remember - it takes 21 days to form a new habit. Forming the habit of exercise and healthy eating are 2 of the best habits worth making the effort and time to acheive. Your body will thank you and all your family and friends will thank you.
3. Get prepared! a. Research what you will physically need. Do you have a gym? If not, join one, or invest in a few inexpensive pieces of equipment for home, or a CD to get you started. (I can help you with that!)
b. Chose a meal plan. (I'll have some for you here, or some other websites) Toss all the "trigger" foods and things you already KNOW are on the NONO list (dump all things with over 5 grams of sugar, and anything with white flour, or white anything) ...and then go shopping! Get yourself stocked up what will help you acheive your goals, and is on your meal plan. If it's not on the plan...do NOT buy it!!
Remember: it's totally worth the goal ahead to be a little uncomfortable for a few weeks.
Once you work through the first few weeks, you will have established habit patterns that will stay with you (and your family) for life!
4. Mindset Lock in on your target! Where can you find encouragement and motivation?? Who inspires you? Sign up for their newsletters online, fill your bedside and other places with magazines such as Fitness, Oxygen, and Health.
Not only do they have good, helpful suggestions, but just the pictures alone will inspire and remind you of your goals.
5. Journal Get it ready! You will need 2 journals, or a 2 subject notebook. You can use this journal to not only record what you are eating, but be specific about it all. Record time of day, what was going on..(i.e. were you at work, shopping, at a party, in a hurry) and how were you feeling? (rushed, hurried, sad, excited, sleepy). You will begin to discover eating patterns and habits, and what is motivating those eating patterns.
6. GET SOME SLEEP!!! Any Doctor, Nutritionist, or other health professional will tell you: It is almost impossible to acheive any health goal without enough sleep. We all tend to NOT get enough rest, then try to eat better and exercise more. That will only prove to be a lesson in frustration and futility. Want to get more sleep? Get up earlier. I guarantee, in a few days, you will get to bed on time!
Now, the number one mainstay in this new routine; the most important, encouraging, life sustaining tip I have:
Taking it all to God before you do anything else. Every morning, ask for Divine guidance, help, strength, and comfort. Very soon you will find yourself turning to Him for it all. No health professional or fitness model, or chocolate decadence can inspire you more than our Creator. Take this to Him, He is right there, waiting and willing. Remember: "You can do all things through Christ Jesus who strenghtens you"
Be encouraged, be of good cheer, this is going to be an awesome journey!!!! Check back here for more help and ideas on this new plan!!!
Questions?? Please send them - I would LOVE to help!! Comments? They will help all of us - so go ahead and write me back. Be the blessing!
Blessings on your day....and it's an honor to be of service!

God's Love
Do you hear Him??
God's love comes skipping across our hearts, daring to land on a tender spot. A spot that you may not even know still needs healing, touching. A spot that is so tender, you have managed to dance around it; to shape your life in such a way that it is never disturbed. Over the years, people and circumstances have managed to poke at it, to pick a bit at the callous that has formed across that open sore spot on your heart. Take heart! This is no ordinary scab...when you pick at it with God's Word - it will not bleed...it will heal. this part of your heart that has remained sick, damaged, not at all the smooth, strong, beautiful area as the rest; this part needs to heal. And with God's Word, and His carefully chosen people, it will. It will "pink up" as the doctor would say. It is dying from lack of attention - not going away as you would have hoped. It still lives, but does not thrive. it still has a bit of breath...but just a bit. There has been a missing part of who you are because this area of your heart you have not been willing to expose. The only one who needs to take a peek at this area is the Living God. he will breathe life back in to this heart - he will heal it not just like new - but better. Better, because now your experiences you can pass on to heal another. (remember the old commercial..."and so on, and so on..." ) You long to hear from God, to serve Him in a more excellent way, but He has been calling to you....let me heal that part of you, I can use it in My kingdom. "You are a valuable resource" God is saying. But we must be willing, and willing to trust. The old song "Trust and Obey, cause there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus..but to trust and obey"
the song says it all.
We can trust Him, for anything, everything....He is the MOST trustworthy. It is mankind who hurts us, the devil who rubs it in, and we who allow it. Take up your sword and follow Him!!!
Into the depths - onward to the war!!!
Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world"!!!!
Take up your sword, gird yourselves for battle. In His Word we have learned that "...with His help I can scale a wall, I can leap the turrents.." Because of Him we can do this - we can live, we can thrive!!
NOTHING is impossible with God!!!!
Go to it - plunge the depths of the Word, and then let it flow through the deep places in your heart. Your battle belongs to the Lord....even if it's a battle within!!
be blessed and not stressed!! He is in control!!!
Pray with me:
"Dear God, thank you thank you for your gentle whispers and nudging that shores me up and restores my soul. Thank you for pouring your love into my broken places, for pulling the "dross" out of my heart, and cleansing me from the inside out. Help me to turn it ALL over to You, and to allow Your perfect healing in my life. Help me to let go of the things I have no business holding on to!! In Jesus Name! Amen!

Amen!
